Elements and Performance Criteria
- Plan and prepare pit design parameters and strategies
- Access, interpret and apply planning of pit development documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
- Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
- Identify, interpret and clarify relevant site geological, geotechnical, hydrogeological, hydrological, and survey data and use it to development and document the pit design and development parameters and strategies
- Identify, interpret and clarify relevant site marketing information and use it to develop and document pit design and development parameters and strategies
- Identify training needs of individuals and work groups, and prepare training plans
- Design the pit development strategic plan
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders in the design process, ensure their effective contribution, and gain their support for the outcomes
- Design the final pit profile based on the production requirements, costs, geological and survey data and relevant compliance documentation
- Design staged development of the pit based taking into account all the relevant pit design and development parameters and strategies
- Prepare contingency plans that provide optional strategies in the event changed circumstances
- Select, confirm and document the extracting method or methods to be applied based on the resource characteristics, pit development parameters, marketing opportunities and economic considerations
- Determine, confirm and document resource requirements/implications of the plan and strategies for their acquisition and use
- Implement training plans
- Develop and document, record and reporting requirements and procedures for the monitoring of the pit development and operations
- Prepare and present the pit development business plan/budget, including contingency plans
- Initiate, monitor and adjust the implementation of the pit development

Performance Evidence
Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:
establishes the organisation’s legislative, site requirements, and procedures for pit developmentimplements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of pit development plans including:coordinating and communicating technical information, rules, procedures, regulations establishing procedures for the review and maintenance of the pit development planidentifying the relevant information and scope of the work necessary to meet the required outcomesidentifying viable options and selecting options that best meet the required outcomesinterpreting and applying geological, geotechnical, hydrological, hydrogeological and survey dataaccessing and interpreting marketing dataidentifying and interpreting approvals licence conditionsestablishing processes to set development targetsdeveloping procedures for incorporating extraction methods, material transportation and storage systems into pit planworks effectively with others to undertake and complete pit development plans that meets all of the required outcomes including:consulting with pit development team and provides team leadershipsharingresing and arketing data instructions for adjustments es and limitations information and communicating effectively in the workplaceestablishing training, coaching and mentoring support for supervisors and managerspreparing written reports communicating the pit development status and outcomesapplying active listening, identifies barriers to communication and provides clarification to make meaningactively encouraging the free exchange of information through consultation, using technology mediums and policiesdemonstrates completion of planning pit developments that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:establishing and documenting, in consultation with stakeholders, procedures for implementing the pit development plansdesigning procedures for, and monitoring operational performance datapreparing contingency plans selecting extraction methodsdetermining resource requirements monitoring pit performance
